Me, I hadn't seen the world. He had. Well, you know how you talk. You see the movies and you see about some place called Maxim's in Paris. I go, okay, I'll never go there. I don't have the money. So when we talked about reverse mortgage, we kept saying, we will have the money.
Our budget would allow us to travel, but not as much as we wanted to. And my home was pretty close to being paid for, but there was no way to get the equity out. Refinancing was quite difficult. And every time we thought about selling the house: where do we move to? We love this place.
Yeah, I built it with my own hands over the last 50 years. And it's what I consider a privileged place. And moving anyplace else would have been a downsize.
Something on TV came up on reverse mortgage, and I said, Mario, look at that. Would you be interested? And he said, no, no, I don't want to think about it right now. But then time passes and priorities change, and my priority became not to leave a big fat inheritance for my children, but to enjoy my golden years in the way that I really wanted to. And I go, this is the option. This is the way, man. No more bills, money in the bank, no worries about writing checks for equity, and just, where do you want to go, honey?
Yeah, let's look at the map. Oh, you want to spend your birthday in Paris? Let's go! And we did. To us, it was a no-brainer. We wanted to travel. We wanted not to have financial worries, and this was the perfect avenue.
So in my case, if you're like me, that you work all your life and you want to go out with a bang, don't hesitate, do it. It doesn't change your lifestyle, but for the better. You don't have to sacrifice anything to do some of the things you wanted.
We end up in a town, we don't know where we're gonna be, and it's like we're two kids having an adventure.
